Brin Pirathapan: From Chelmsford to MasterChef Champion

Brin Pirathapan, the talented British Tamil chef who grew up in Chelmsford, Essex, was crowned the winner of MasterChef UK 2024 in a highly praised final.

Born in Ilford and raised in Chelmsford, Brin trained and worked as a veterinary surgeon before showcasing his passion for cooking — deeply influenced by his Sri Lankan/Tamil heritage — on the BBC show. He impressed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with his bold flavours and creative dishes, taking the title in what many called one of the strongest finals in the show’s history.

Since his victory in May 2024, Brin has transitioned into a full-time food career. He now works as a food content creator, recipe developer, and private dining chef based in Bristol. He has released his own cookbook titled ELEVATE and regularly shares inspiring home-cooking content rooted in his heritage.

He also hosts supper clubs, events, and has collaborated with platforms like the BBC Good Food Show.

Chelmsford locals can take pride in the fact that one of their own has gone from a quiet life in Essex to national culinary champion.

Congratulations to Brin on his well-deserved success!
