Chelmsford Collision Appeal: Motorcyclist Arrested on Suspicion of Drug Driving After Crash on Broomfield Road
Essex Police have arrested a man following a serious collision between a motorbike and a car in Chelmsford.
Officers were called to Broomfield Road at just after 2:50pm on Sunday 5 April 2026 to reports of the two-vehicle crash.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, he has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
He remains in hospital at this time.
Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the moments leading up to the crash or who has dashcam footage or CCTV that could assist the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Essex Police on 101, quoting incident reference 42/1294/26, or use the online reporting form on the Essex Police website.

A police spokesperson said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this collision and would urge anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch if they have not already done so.”
The road was temporarily closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and carried out initial enquiries.
