Chelmsford KFC Applies to Operate Until 3am Under New Licensing Plans

KFC's Moulsham Street restaurant in Chelmsford could operate until 3am on three nights a week under a new premises licence application submitted to Chelmsford City Council.

The application, made by Orion Foods Limited for the restaurant at 13 Moulsham Street, seeks permission to extend operations into the early hours, with late-night orders handled through delivery collections.

According to a public licensing notice published on 15 October 2026, the proposed hours are 9.30am until midnight on Sundays and Mondays, 9.30am until 1am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 9.30am until 3am from Thursdays to Saturdays.

No Customer Access After Midnight

Under the proposals, the restaurant would not allow customers inside after midnight.

Instead, operations beyond that time would be restricted to delivery collections, meaning the later opening hours would not provide additional late-night dine-in access.

KFC's official website currently advertises the Moulsham Street restaurant as open from 10am until 11pm every day.

The application therefore represents a potential significant extension to the premises' operating hours, particularly towards the end of the week.

Residents Can Comment Until 5 November

Chelmsford City Council has confirmed that the application is open for public representations until Thursday 5 November 2026.

Residents and other interested parties who wish to comment can contact the council's Licensing Team, with representations required to relate to the licensing objectives.

These include the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

Representations can be submitted by emailing licensing@chelmsford.gov.uk or writing to the Licensing Team at the Civic Centre, Duke Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1JE.

The application has not yet been approved, and the proposed hours should not be treated as confirmed operating arrangements.

Chelmsford City Hub will follow the application and report any decision on the proposed extended hours.
