Jett Murphy’s second-half goal earned Chelmsford City a hard-fought three points on the road as they defeated Chippenham Town 1-0 in Wiltshire.

The Clarets made the breakthrough in the 54th minute when captain Dom Odusanya launched a long ball forward. The wind appeared to hold the ball up, causing problems for the Chippenham defence. Murphy reacted quickly, showing excellent composure to lift his finish over goalkeeper Will Henry and into the roof of the net.

The goal proved decisive in a tight contest. Chippenham pushed for an equaliser in the second half but were unable to break down a resilient Chelmsford defence. The visitors dug deep to protect their lead and secured a valuable victory that keeps their play-off hopes alive as the season enters its final stages.

It was Chippenham’s first home defeat in six matches, despite a battling performance in front of their home support.

The win moves Chelmsford City closer to the top-seven places in the National League South table. With several games still to play, every point on the road will be crucial for Luke Rooney’s side.
