New City Voices: Join the Friendly Community Choir in Chelmsford Making Music and Raising Funds for Charity
Looking for a welcoming way to enjoy singing, meet new people, and give back to the local community in Chelmsford? New City Voices is a popular community choir based in Moulsham Lodge that offers exactly that — no auditions, no pressure, and plenty of fun.
Originally formed in 2014 as the Moulsham Lodge Community Choir, New City Voices sings a wide mix of popular, feel-good songs (think everything from Queen and Take That to modern hits and classic crowd-pleasers). The choir performs at regular concerts, lunchtime recitals (including at Chelmsford Cathedral), street sings in shopping centres like High Chelmer, and special events throughout the year.
What sets them apart is their strong focus on charity fundraising. Since 2019, the choir has donated over £12,000 to local good causes through their performances and events.
Rehearsals & How It Works
New members are always welcome — there are no auditions, and you’re not expected to sing solo. Everyone learns together in a supportive, friendly atmosphere.
- When: Every Thursday evening
- Time: 7:45pm – 9:30pm (first session is a free taster)
- Where: Moulsham Infant School, Princes Road, Chelmsford, CM2 9DG
Cost
- First session: Free (taster)
- Subsequent sessions: £7.50 per week (pay-as-you-go — no joining fee or termly commitment)
- Sheet music: £2 per copy (can be borrowed during sessions or purchased as needed)
It’s a relaxed “pay per session” model that makes it easy to fit singing into a busy life.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or have sung before, New City Voices is open to all adults who just want to enjoy making music together. The choir regularly performs at venues across Chelmsford and supports local charities with their uplifting live performances.
