A major rail incident has caused widespread disruption to services through Chelmsford this afternoon after a person was struck by a train on the Greater Anglia network.
Emergency services were called to the line between Shenfield and Witham, a key stretch of railway serving Chelmsford and surrounding areas, following reports that an individual had been hit by a train.
Rail operator Greater Anglia confirmed that the incident has resulted in all lines being blocked, with trains cancelled, delayed, or revised while emergency crews respond at the scene.
Services between London Liverpool Street and Essex, including routes passing through Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich, are currently affected.
Passengers are being advised to avoid travel if possible and check for updates before setting out, as disruption is expected to continue until further notice.
At this stage, details about the individual involved have not been released, and it is not yet known how long the line will remain closed.
