Councillor Jannetta Sosin Named Mayor of Chelmsford for 2025-26
Councillor Jannetta Sosin is the current Mayor of Chelmsford, having been formally elected for the 2025-26 civic year.
She was elected Mayor on Wednesday 14 May 2025 at a meeting of Chelmsford City Council, succeeding Councillor Janette Potter who served as Mayor for 2024-25. Councillor Smita Rajesh was elected as her Deputy Mayor at the same time.
Councillor Sosin has lived in Great Baddow since 1980 and is a long-standing resident of Chelmsford. She and her husband Andrew have four adult children and eight grandchildren. Her appointment continues the tradition of the Mayor serving as the city’s first citizen in a largely ceremonial role, representing Chelmsford at hundreds of community events, charity functions, and civic occasions throughout the year.
For the 2025-26 term, Mayor Sosin has chosen Chelmsford CVS as her official mayoral charity, highlighting her commitment to supporting local voluntary and community organisations.
The Mayor’s role is non-political in its civic duties, focusing on promoting the city, engaging with residents, and supporting good causes across Chelmsford and the surrounding areas.
If you would like to invite the Mayor to an event or find out more about her engagements, you can contact the Mayor’s Office through Chelmsford City Council.
