Enlightened Returns to Hylands Estate for Christmas Light Trail 2026

One of Chelmsford's most popular festive attractions returns this winter as Enlightened transforms Hylands Estate into an illuminated wonderland from Friday 27 November 2026 until Saturday 2 January 2027.

The family-friendly Christmas light trail will take visitors on an atmospheric evening walk through Hylands Park, with colourful illuminations, sound effects and interactive installations bringing the landscape to life after dark.

Organised by Enlightened Moments, the event offers families, couples and groups of friends an opportunity to enjoy the historic estate in a completely different setting.

A magical Christmas light trail through Hylands Park

Visitors will follow a specially illuminated route through the park, discovering displays that combine light, colour and sound.

Interactive installations add another dimension to the experience, allowing visitors of different ages to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The trail is designed to take approximately one hour, although visitors can enjoy the experience at their own pace.

As the event takes place outdoors during the winter, warm clothing and suitable footwear are recommended.

When is Enlightened at Hylands Estate 2026?

Enlightened opens on Friday 27 November 2026 and continues until Saturday 2 January 2027.

Timed entry slots begin at 4.30pm, with further entry times available every 15 minutes until 8pm.

Tickets must be booked in advance, and visitors should arrive at their allocated entry time.

Important: Use the Writtle entrance, not Hylands House

Visitors travelling to Enlightened should use the Writtle entrance to Hylands Park, accessed from Greenbury Way off the A414.

The postcode for the event entrance is CM2 8FS.

The organisers specifically advise visitors to follow signs for Hylands Park rather than Hylands House.

There is no access to Enlightened from the London Road entrance to Hylands House.

Parking is included with admission, and visitors should follow the event signage on arrival.

Is Enlightened suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs?

The organisers advise that the trail is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

However, the route uses outdoor paths that may include gravel, slopes and muddy areas, particularly after wet weather.

Can I change my Enlightened tickets?

The event operates a restricted refund and exchange policy.
